Square Enix North America sent over a batch of new screenshots detailing the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which will sport a special interface to be used with the DualShock 3 controller. The PC version of the game will also have a controller setup like this so however you like to play, you’ll be able to take advantage of this new interface. Called the Cross Hotbar interface, is one of many changes coming in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn — out early next year. As of right now it seems that the races of Final Fantasy XIV will be the same as the races in Final Fantasy XI, only given different names. It has been said that there will be less differences between the races as far as being able to perform different jobs effectively. Certain races will still be the ‘best’ but none of the races will be unable to perform properly in any class. Alongside the third phase of beta testing, Square-Enix is also testing another aspect of Final Fantasy XIV’s relaunch — the new and improved Lodestone. The original Lodestone served as a combination community site and data aggregator, but it had some system issues and deserved a revamp along with everything else connected to the game. You know what? Just scrap all of FF14. Take the original FF11, up until right before Al’Teiu release, and buff up the graphics on that…. redo the graphics on that to match the graphics on FF14, and then release it as FF14. That would be a hit, for the original FF11 was a gem… it was timeless, and unfortunately you can’t even play the original FF11 anymore… it was all ruined with crap like aght urghan, nightmare dynamis, and abyssea. It got so dark. There was no more happiness in the game anymore. He then goes on to check off a list of the game’s gigantic errors – an unpalatable progress structure, inadequate server architecture, a woeful interface – none of which, we can presume, Square Enix will be making in its ground-up renovation. Certainly, Yoshida knows his MMO onions – he’s played pretty much all of them, is currently smacked up on Guild Wars 2 and harbours a long-time love of Dark Ages of Camelot’s PvP. These are good things by which to be inspired and it all suggests that A Realm Reborn is definitely not to be written off. My team and I are very much looking forward to the beta test, which is about to commence. PS3 players will be able to jump in to start testing when the third phase of the Beta launches.
